Default Engine break-in ...

Is anybody following the procedure posted by DennisA4 ?

I have just started, but I have not got too far yet (200 miles only).
I am wondering about 2-3 sec. WOT at low rpms (which I have been doing from the start) ... the reasoning sounds great, but it goes against the manual ... are the manuals only playing it safe by saying NO WOT ?
Any further reviews, DennisA4, on this procedure ? Have you followed it ?

Best regards,

Roberto.

Are you iron block or aluminum with liners?

I'm at 1200 miles now. Car runs great! It gets smoother each time you reach your high rpm. For instance, the first time you hit 4500 rpm it may be a bit rough or loud, but after the 3rd time it's mellowed out.
Obviously I can't give a long term report. But the manual does state that you should vary your rpms and speed, which this method does.
I also have not burned any oil yet, which is one of the main reasons I followed that procedure.

Default Review of break-in post...

I tried to stick pretty closely to the break-in post you mention... I passed 5k miles two week ago, and it really feels like the engine is alot looser, alot peppier... which, of course, equates to more fun.

Default Thanks for your replies !!! ......

I had to drive about 150 miles to bring the car home, stopping about 3 times for 40-45 minutes.
I did work really hard on shifting between 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th every 1 or two minutes, trying to rev-match when downshifting (no double clutch yet ... I'll wait)... up to 3600 rpms so far ... except for a couple of too hasty downshifts, promptly corrected.
My main worry was about the WOT procedure ... and the little smoke wafting out of the tail pipes when I turned off the engine ... it looks cool, like a smocking gun and hopefully it is only condensation or some residue burning out of the new engine (conditions here are rather moist, with temperature around freezing).

Roberto.

P.S.: no more driving until the weekend, but I'll keep you posted.

What is the scientific theory supporting the procedure? Just curious. TIA.
