I was trying to check out the wet traction on my Dunlops. In doing so, I felt the ESP kick in. Fine, its a safety feature that I would like to have on sometimes, but it was kicking in way too early. I know it has to come in early to be effective so I switched it off. The car felt like it lost 200 lbs out of its ***. ESP must have been kicking in even earlier than I first thought. Now I'm driving briskly, decreaseing radius, off-camber, whatever. This car handles great when tossed around. I ended up right on every slip-line I picked. Nice. Quick too! So I ask, is it better to leave ESP off? I don't want to burn up my brakes. It felt a lot lighter and quicker w/o it. It seems to interfere with "normal" driving.

I think I read that the Porsche system does this. Does anybody know if the Audi one does? That would be the best of both worlds, no?

Something about a gforce and some other element ratio threshold being exceeded.
ClarkStarr, you're totally right about the car feeling lighter and quicker with ESP off. We just got about 4 inches of snow here yesterday, and I turned ESP off for a few minutes to see the difference. When I turned ESP back on, it felt like like I had a 1.8 without the turbo.

if you want to use it on the course. I guess they don't want people wrecking their own cars because they were told to turn it off, but they had it turned off on the demo cars when we drove the oval. I definate think it interfears w/ normal driving. If they had a variable system, that would be best. I will have mine off a lot more to save brakes and make the car quicker.
pic is of the asses of an A6 4.2 tip and an S8 tip up front. My girlfriend passed both in a A6 2.7tqm. I took the pic
