ESP.... On or Off?

ESP.... On or Off?
I have been reading some of the posts regarding ESP and it seems that everyone agrees that you should turn it off for the best performance and acceleration. Are there any major drawbacks to doing that. All opinions welcomed!!

When you turn off ESP, watch out for curve!
I was heading toward curve (about 50 degree angle) with high speed and forgot to turn ESP back on... result ?...I almost had accident without ESP on.

Re: ESP off, will help you launch as it reduces power in loss of traction.
So as long as I am not driving through the canyons or racing around corners I should be ok and will get better pickup off the line. Is that accurate?

Opps.. correction ESP, selectively brakes during loss of traction. ASR cuts power.
But ESP off I believe lowers the threshold for both ASR and ESP. Even if you turn ESP off, its really still on. Just not nearly as sensitive.
But yes, you will be better off the line, but once you get going theres no point into keeping it off, unless you want in induce understeer.

EDL, ASR, ESP EBD, explained by April/verdegrrl

Put it this way, you wont notice a thing unless you accelerate either hard enough
or on poor enough a surface that your wheels would spin when taking off.
Now there has to be a surface poor enough that if you were to turn it off, youd just spend so much time spinning that the ASR lowering engine output to stop the spinning would actually end up being faster.
