European Car Oettinger Article Question
Page 60 of the May 2002 European Car Magazine has an article on 2002 A4 1.8t. In it there is a part that says "With the advent of the new 2002 models, Audi's 1.8t motor has been equipped with a Multi-Motronic management system that features new blocks of code and newly calculated check sums. That means until a few well-placed computer guys get factory help, Oettingers's wonderful 240hp turbo upgrade kit won't be seeing any action. It's just a matter of time" - What exactly does this mean in simple terms, and does this relate to the ECU and chipping the car? Also the article states that the engine for 2002 has a 10hp increase over the previous model. I thought the hp numbers have been at 170 for a few years unless we really have 180 like the VW's and Audi is lying to us. Anyone have any answers or thoughts?

Check Sums is referring to ECU and chipping...
The new ECU has checksums that verifies that the software on the chip has not been modified. If it detects a different sequence of checksums, it reverts to the original stock programming stored in PROM in the ECU.
Some tuners have not been able to break this new code and their programming only stays in the ECU for a short while before reverting to stock. That's is the most likely cause of the "delay" on some of these chips to hit market.

That's ok - the editor doesn't understand the Torsen AWD anyway...
In the article, she describes an imaginary 400hp new A4 and says "Pick first gear, point the wheels straight and stab it -- the front tires rip chunks from the pavement before the torque is transferred aft." If I'm not mistaken, she was describing a Haldex-based AWD system, since the Torsen should be transferring it to all four wheels as soon as you "stab it."

Re: The Oettinger car came from Europe. Not sure what spec.
Okay so I am assuming that GIAC has solved this problem and that is why they have a chip on the market. I have an appointment on Friday to get the chip installed and I wanna make sure that I am making the right decision.
