Default evap emissions control = bad cat? advise please 2003 1.8t 126k

using vag freeware decoded CEL code: 16825 evap emissions control sys: Incorrect flow, p0441-001 upper limit exceeded intermittent. cleared and came back a couple times left it since car was going to stealer for trans flush. They claim the cat is going, they cleared code and if it returns , cat needs to be replaced. there write up = bank1 warn up catalyst, bank1. code returns, car now has trouble cold starting and dying takes up to 10 trys, happened twice but drives fine. The more i read here leads to purge valve (replaced not to long ago) and carbon canister. funny the bad canister symptom of only being able to fill up 1/2 gallon at a time and hiss has happed to me 10+ times but not recently. Also I dropped it and it was light weight (not full of gas)lines looked fine also pulled purge valve, it holds vaccum and presure both ways. tapped it and no black crap came out. looks like thougho testing needs full vag-com. Canister is $210, can only find at dealer, TTuning has cat for $295, looks like a PITA and i'd had to just start replacing expensive parts. does 1.8 have 2 cats, can this be o2 sensor related, codes don't indicate it.

Default Ask the dealership to explain how the alleged cat failure causes the "EVAP Purge Incorrect Flow, ...

Upper limit exceeded" reoccurring DTC 16825.

The EVAP Purge Flow is not evaluated by the cat or cat function. The N80 may be sticking open occasionally. Replacing the N80 to fix is likely required.

Default on a side note, make sure not to "top off" when filling up..

that's what causes the canister issues.. (my a4's previous owner let this one surprise me soon after i bought it)

Default take the check valves off; if they are crusty they can cause this

in my case the check valve end top came off and got sucked into my n80 valve.

you know the N80 has a flathead screwdriver adjustment in it to change its position (normally sealed ***-tight) to open at 0V?

but there's a ton of those check valves; if they break/leak you are screwed.

N80 failure tends to rear its ugly head on warm days when you refill the tank the car will stall when you get back in the car and start it if its sticking open

Default are u refering to the black/gray valve dirctly attached to the purge valve

the under side of my did have corrosion where the two colors meet, but didn't look like it was leaking and i blew through the hose and didn't fail any thing. I guess the insides are probably bad.

Default Here is info on how to diagnose whether your cat or O2 sensors are bad

Info is compliments of Bracketracer -- you may have to use VAG-COM.

<a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/vag/msgs/13072.phtml" target="_new">Clicky</a>

I followed his steps using my VAG-COM and was able to determine that my cat was bad. Fortunate that I was still under emissions warranty.

Good luck!
