I have 69000 miles on my 2002 A4 3.0 Q. I am planning to keep my car. I inquired about extended warranty and I got a quote for 2500. for comprehensive coverage and 100 deductable for 49000 miles or 49 months(which ever comes first) over my current milage. The warranty is transferable and subject to pro rata reimbursment when traded in. What are your experiences about extended warranties?

Extended warranties are great as long as you get one that will cover the right items. There are basicallt two kinds: "Named Component Warranties" and "Comprehensive Warranties". Named component warranties give you a list of items that will be covered under the contract and nothing more. They cover the major items and some even cover some electrical items, but virtually none of them will cover wear and tear items or enhanced electrical like heated/vented seats. The comprehensive coverage basically covers everything the car came with from the factory. Clearly these are more expensive, but generally worthwhile. I have gone both routes with different cars and I have also had warranties with five different companies. All of my experiences have been pretty good, but I have always tried to elect the best available coverage and the lowest deductible. I also used to work in auto finance and insurance so if you have any questions feel free to ask them. Good luck
