Default Extensive HID Xenon Conversion Question

Like a lot of people, I purchased a conversion kit on EBay and installed it. It worked well for about 3 months then all of a sudden, the module that controls my instruments was fried as well the unit in my steering column. Not sure what those parts are but anyways, the guy at Audi mentioned that the computer was sending a different wattage than it was programmed for which caused it to malfunction. After about $1200 worth of repairs, I'm still determined to put Xenon on my car since the tech replaced my old halogens on. I've been searching Ebay and other online stores for actual Audi Xenon headlights and found a few sets of OEMs. To make sure, I called the Audi Service Dept and they told me that I would have to reprogram my computer to accomodate the new headlights. Does anyone have any input or confirmation of this? Is there a better kit out there that can bypass that step? Thanks...

Default If you know you've had problems, don't wire it up the same. Use a relay to activate...

your HID conversion. The onboard electrical system will now only see/sense the relay. The risk to your host system will be very very low.
This way, the entire HID electrical draw will be direct to ground and a hot lead.

Default OEM xenon HID housings with OEM lamps and ballast is the hot setup.

plug and play, no controller recoding required.
Conversion kits provide inferior and hazardous results, do not make this mistake again.

Default i've seen aftermarket kits that were fine, but...

usually people go with 6000k bulbs and up and end up with blue headlights that put out next to no usable light

Default how could i get a hold of the ballast and the other stuff needed(minus housing)....

i've search the archives and read your other post, and you have put me away to those "retro convesion kits" but i've looked on different site (ecs, awe, lltek) and no one seems to have the complete set(housin, ballast, bulb, etc.) and i would like to upgrade my halogen to xenon. thanx for your help
