After having problem with my transmissin which occasionally went from "D" mode to "1st" gear in Tipronic mode automatically which showed up on dashboard manual gears while on DRIVE MODE, i got my car scanned again today from different shop and a fault finally showed up with this info "18152 Tiptronic Recognition Switch (F189) Short to Ground P1744 Mechanical Function", AND the mechanic drove my car for a while and found out that in D (Drive) mode, the gears changes manually when shift up to N (Neutral), and down shift wen hitting the S (Sports) mode, STRANGE, So as a result the car drives manually (Triptronic) in D (Drive) mode while nothing happens in Tiptronic mode lol crazy.

Based on the code description (tip recognition switch) and driving results (confused shift lever, but seems to shift okay), it has to be a switch I'm guessing at the base of the gear shift lever, but after a quick search, I found no info on it. Maybe something is simply disconnected. Even the Ross Tech website didn't have the code. Maybe others have seen this.

Based on the code you gave, I seriously doubt it is a bad transmission. Always start with easy / cheap stuff and eliminate those problems. Kind of like, don't amputate your leg if you have a bad ACL.

How did you fix this? I recently bought a 2000 Audi A6 2.7t with tiptronic and when I start out in the morning in(D) drive mode it doesn't shift whe I get up to 40 mph and my RPM's are high
