Final Snail-mobile update:
shop bled cooling system again and all is ok.
Mechanic said the old timing belt was ok.
Koni FSDs ride is generally "like stock" with less dive. Initial hits are firmer but larger hits are a bit more controlled. Hope the car settles a bit. . .I don't know why it would be HIGHER if I changed the shocks but not the springs. any thoughts?

look at that ride height! MAN, that thing looks like an '03 not an '02!

quad link front suspension has the lower end of the spring perched on teh shock body
thus a change in the shocks can alter the front ride height.
difficulty varies by how experienced you are

Koni FSD Ride Height - It was Me!
I put Koni FSDs/Eibach ProKit on my 03 1.8TQ two weeks ago. I have only put about 200 miles on the car since, so I'm hoping the rear will settle some more. Compared to the OEM Sport suspension which I had before, the rear has not dropped at all, the front dropped a full inch. I had to remove the Torx screw at the top of the front whell arch as I was getting rubbing with 235/40-18 tires on 18x8.5 CHs.
I have photos of these springs on the original owner's A4, and they look a lot lower in the back. He had Bilstein Sport, which is also a gas pressure shock. The ride is much better than OEM Sport, most notably much less floaty feeling. Less dive and squat as well. I think this is a result of much better rebound control with the FSDs. Overall, I am happy with the FSD/Eibach combo, but I would like to see another 1/2" drop in back.
