Finally found the source of my intermittent no start condition...(edit)
Earlier last week I posted about taking 2 or 3 cranks to get my car started with no other faults related. I finally came up with fault code 17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer. Searched the forums and found an old post directing me to check 17-Intruments faut codes. I found the following code in VAG COM:
01176-Key
07-10 Signal too low - Intermittent
So I think the issue is with my key. Makes sense. I wanted to buy an extra key anyway since this is my only key for the car. But I was wondering if there was a way to fix the signal stregnth of the key that I have just incase I need to use it again.
But when I looked up the 17978 code in Bentley, it says to "adapt immobilizer to ECM". I'm wonding if they refering to the key's immobilizer or just the car itself.

Replace the key battery. Then,....
insert the key in the ignition, turn the ignition ON, press the "UNLOCK" button on the remote then start the engine. Next, turn the engine OFF, exit the car and lock with the remote. Clear the DTCs in the IC. If the low signal strength DTC reoccurs, the immobo key reader coil in the ignition swith may be faulty.
