Default First drive in snow...

NJ is getting hit with about six inches of snow today, so it was time to get my new A4 3.0Q out in the fun stuff. Pulled out of garage and out of driveway without a bit of slipping. My turned-in 2001 TTRQ would have been slipping already, even with the all-seasons. Got onto the secondary roads 517/206 and while still snow covered ( I leave for work at 5:20 a.m.) no slipping, except when making a 90 degree turn. Kept it in third and about 35 MPH, sometimes 4th and 40-45. Got onto the highway (287) and was able to go about 40-50mph the entire way with plowed snow (hardpacked) on surface. Only noticable slips were when I would hit a section that was not plowed, and the car would shimmy for just a second, taking foot off gas would make her behave again. Once I got off the highway and I was on some deserted back roads (still fully snow covered), I had some experimentation time to see what the limits were. All in all very tolerable, with only slips coming when not driving "correctly" in snow. Example, sudden stops, taking a corner and gassing it. Interesting thing about the A4, compared to my old TTRQ is when the A4 slips, I do not really feel it happen. It's like "Oh, my ***-end is swinging around, isn't that nice?" With the TT I could feel the slip happening from the beginning. However, the A4 handles 100% better in the snow than my TT did. Lots of fun !!
