Default Why how much more are the 18's?
Its only like $20 extra per wheel, and you can find cheap 18" tires now. Im just seriously worried you will get them and regret not getting 18's. If you can hold off for 18's I would seriously consider it!

Other big reasons (for me) were increased unsprung weight and smaller sidewall.

Default 18's are safe with 235 40's, its when you go 19 your getting risky in Detroit.
Not trying to make you go bling, I just hate to see you wish you went 18. It has happened many times! ON my last A4 I bought 17's, regretted it and ending up buying 18's. Same thing with this car, I bought 18's and Ive been jonsing for 19's ever since. Then again Im never satisfied so dont listen to me.
