What did you add to your car? Plain power steering fluid is a contaminate.

The temperature of the fluid will influence the level on the dipstick, significantly.

And, the method used when checking, that is, just setting the dipstick in place, or screwing the cap all the way in, then noting the indicated level.

I hear ya

used to have a japanese car. much less expensive to maintain. but you are right, the ride is uninvolving compared with an a4.

Mobil 1 ATF is perfect, umm....in a pinch.
