Why is it that Americans are so obsessed with driving around during the day with their fog lights on? I say this as an American, mind you.
Fog lights are designed to help you see in fog. Yo Wassssup, they aren't fashion accessories.
As far as high beams and fogs together, Audi knows that this combination will NOT help visibility (in fog). The light from the highs bounces off the fog and right back at you, hence the built in safety feature of disabling this option.
If you just want to drive around with your fog lights on all the time so that people say "Wow, he's got fog lights," go buy a Pontiac and feel the excitement.

I never notice fogs ( they are too low and too low power ) unless they are those $#%@ yellow Lexus fogs, in which case I hit them with high beams, fog lights, and driving lights ( yes, I have all three ), and flash them madly.

I can't stand the morons who wants to impress the others (or themselves) with their fog lamps on.
Bad news is that Audi Canada use the fog lamps (possibly not real ones) as their DRL. Stupid idea.

In our Oregon driver's manual, it says that the law requires you to turn off fog lights whenever high beams are required to be off. Of course, nobody cares what the laws say if they don't get ticketed, and I've never seen this enforced.
The worst for me are the Saturn DRLs, which are the high beams at reduced brightness, They're painful to have coming at you even on a sunny day.
