Default front windshield crack

After having parked under a very hot sun this past weekend, I noticed a crack starting at the base of the windshield right below the front passenger wiper. I checked for any possible stone chips, but found none. The car is only 4 months old. Would the dealer cover this under the warranty or do I have to go through my insurance? Is the Audi glass a better choice?
Thanks

Default The dealer will cover that type of crack. Someone posted yesterday that ONLY Audi OEM glass is (m)

available for the 02 A4s so far. No aftermarket glass available yet.

Default I think that's why the manual warns not to use the wipers on a dry windshield. :) But yes, the (m)

glass is soft on VWs and Audis (as well as other German cars, I'd guess). The explanation given to me is that soft glass is less prone to cracking from a rock impact, etc., but more prone to pitting and scratching.

Default I second that!!!!

I have had my car for 9 months, when I got the new windshield installed, I could not believe how clear the view was. The 9 month old winshield was so pitted, I didn't realize how badly it was.

Default Re: front windshield crack

Audi dealer checked out the windshield, and called it a "Stress" crack, so its covered under the warranty. Part on order.

Default Yeahhhhhh.. It's covered.

Audi is replacing the windshield under warranty as soon as the replacement part arrives.
