I've been lurking in the forums for a couple yeasrs now...lots of great info. Hopefully someone can help me out.

I have a 2004 A4 1.8T UltraSport with the 6-speed manual. This past summer, the gear shift was sticky - it would not return to center. It only did it when the weather was hot...regardless of how long the car was on. Well, by the time I got an appt with the dealer, the stickyness went away and they didn't find anything wrong.

This winter, the problem reared its head again...only this time it happened when the car was 'wicked' cold. The gearshift was 'frozen' in place - either in the center, in 1st, or whatever gear. I dropped it off at the dealer again...but now it isn't cold enough for it to be stuck again...

Anyone experience this or know how to fix it? Thanks!

Same thing with my 2004 3.0. Dealer rebuilt shifter, told me they found the problems after lubing it a couple of times. NO change...just one of those inherint faults.
