Fuel Gauge Shows 1/4 To Go But Car Runs Out of Gas
My 2003 Avant 1.8L shows 1/4 tank but then runs out of gas. The (miles left in tank) indicator shows about 70 miles left in tank but the car runs out of gas around that point. I replaced the pump but it still does the same thing. I noticed some hoses going to the left side of the tank from the pump side. It looks like there are two floats in the tank. Could it be one of the floats is not working? Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheapest fix? Keep it above half all the time.
I'd take it near the '70 miles' point, get to a gas station and fill it up completely. See how much it takes. If it's around 60L (15? gallons) then you know the tank is actually empty and there is a sensor issue. If less, then you know it could be a fuel pickup issue, etc.
