Default Are Fuel Injection Flushes really necessary?

A friend just dropped off his 1.8 at the audi dealership for 30K service and they recommended that he get a fuel injection/carbon flush. The the is, because this isn't an Audi recommended service, they say he needs to pay for it. Apparently, Bosch recommends it. Has anyone done this? This seems unnecessary. Thoughts?

Default Yes... (more)

I never believed in any kind of 'fuel line cleaner' and thought it was total crap.

Imagine my surprise when pulling my intake after 30k miles and finding it deeply carboned up on 2 of 3 valves in each cylinder.

This is with mostly highway driving, and using premium (brands that claim to be the 'cleanest') etc...

I cleaned it up, and have since run injector cleaner through periodically to keep the carbon down.

I had occasion to pull the intake again some time later, and that seemed to do the trick (I used Redline injector cleaner)...

PS, reason I keep taking my manifold off is due to numerous problems I've had with my APR stage 1+ set up.

Default Ditto on the Redline. However, I've noticed it's getting harder to find in CA...

...must be the AQMD Polizei.
