Default Full screen navigation for audi?

Does anyone know whether the A4 in the US will get a full screen navigation system? Not the one intergrated into the instrument cluster.

Default The back end is the same, just one has big screen. It is called NavPlus.

Right now, it is not compatible with the way data is set up for North America.

Default Small updat on Nav + install

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/29595/aut_1968.jpg"></center><p>Yesterday received the complete library of MAP CD's for the US and Canada.
Also got the 26 pin connector which will make me hookup my Nav + to amongst others the CAN bus, in our 2002 A4 a lot of the info is transmitted through this CAN bus like switching the radio off when removing the key.
I also received my Bentley CD which is a great help in locating the wires needed for this little project.
So now for the install, the unit itself is working fine on the FM band and playing for about a week or so.
The sound quality of this headunit is much better then the symphony II the car came with.
I will keep you posted on the progress.

Default The most important quote from the successful installer.

"[QUOTE]Check with the TDIClub I believe he paid over $1600 for his set up.
[QUOTE]

I spoke with the exporter, and he still doesn't have a price yet.. I'm not finished the install.

I bought more parts that I really needed because I wasn't sure if everything would work, and waiting a week to get a $2 part sucks. The total outlay thus far was 1600 Euros for all the parts, $160 for the US Map CD from Blaupunkt (That didn't work), $45 for the Audi CD (from ebay.. that didn't work) and I'm up to about 50 Hours of R&amp;D.

Now for an Op-Ed from SVTWEB.. Please take it with a bit of humor.

Now.. Considering that none of the rest of you cheap ba$tards were willing to fork out the capitol to be the poineer of this... Watch your comments. I have been following this board for the last 8 months and this was one of the mods that the vast majority said couldn't be done... ( I remember people saying that about the MFA Cluster... Borasport and I proved that one wrong) YES, it costs a great deal of money. But after I get everything working, and documented, I'm sure the cost of the project will be far below the capitol that I have already laid out.

Case and Point, when I pioneered the TV on NAV retrofit for the BMW's last year I spent over $2000 in parts and 200 hours of R&amp;D. In the end the instuctions I sold were $25, and the parts could be purchased at the local BMW dealer for $600-$650. Install time was under 2 hours. I sold over 200 copies of the instructions, not because I wanted to make money. If you figure it out I could have done better working at McDonalds (as a manager). What I did want to do was prove to everyone that it could be done, and that it was a viable option.

The deal that is being negotiated with the Exporter, a US Importer, and myself will be revealed when everything has been completed. This project has not been a simple "Plug and Play" I'm up to my nuts in Hex Code trying to crack a few of the hidden secrets. I'm sure when all of this gets finished there will be several options. The other 2 parties already know that I will be selling instructions on how to do this. Thatway people can source their own hardware and install it. They will also sell kits for those who are less ambitious of collecting the hardware.

So everyone keep smiling and I'll have this out as soon as I can get everything together."

Note that he later says he only has the "D" version figured out.

This is the second successful install I know of. AMS did it a long time ago, but decided not to offer it because Audi and Blaupunkt might get upset and pull the plug on some other things. After all, they would want to licsense it. One of the downsides of being an official business:-( The CD coding is the hardest part.

Default re:successful installer

Version D is the latest software/firmware version, so not to go through the hassle of coding each and every version he opted to go with the latest possible version.
As for the A4 2002...this one only comes in a "D" version hence you don't have to worry about a non compatible software version (just make sure you get a Navi + for a 2002 you can recognize it by the chrome finish on the lower part of the navi and of course the part number which starts with 8E)
I don't think this is an easy way of adding a navi to your car but if you want to be like me and like the OEM look this in my opinion is worth some extra work and money.
By the way my system didn't cost 1600.00 if you can find a system on Ebay it will set you back about 800 to 1000 the connector and wires are $26 at your local VW dealer, a navi antenna should be about 70.

Default Re: Do you have the Nav function working ?

The CD's are working, I just popped on in and i was able to select city and street, it now also allowed me to change the language into English (was German)
April why have so little faith?...have you tried this yourself before? (I haven't) but still I am optimistic it will work.
The hardest part is the map cd's which have been takeled.
Pictures in a few moments....
