Would anyone recomend one over another?
Brand or type?
Thanks.........

G12++ Lilac [lightly silicated]
107-21-1 ethane-1,2-diol < 75%
149-57-5 2-ethylhexanoic acid < 5%
2-EHA is the plasticizer in dex-cool. Audi Radiator fittings are plastic, 2-EHA softens plastic.
G12 purple [G 012 A8F A4]
name..................%.......CAS
ethylene glycol.....70-80%..107-21-1
diethylene glycol...10-20%..111-46-6
sebacic acid.........1-5%...111-20-6
sodium hydroxide....1-1.5%..1310-73-2
G12 Red
107-21-1 ethane-1,2-diol < 90%
111-46-6 2,2'-oxybisethanol < 5%
oxybisenthanol is DEG which is highly poisonous and has caused numerous health issues around the globe, maybe the reason Pentosin dropped it.
G11 Blue
107-21-1 ethane-1,2-diol (75-100%)
1330-43-4 disodium tetraborate, anhydrous (< 5%)
Disodium teraborate is [borax] cleaner/detergent.
Basic organic detergent
I read that G11 did have 2-EHA in it as well but it's not showing on their MSDS.
With this info it would seem G12+ purple is the best of the bunch but it's being phased out, Pink would be second and supply is low/gone.
G11 might be shorter lived because if has silicates but least it won't eat your plastic, if it really does not have 2-EHA in it
G 12 (G 30 in europe) is OAT based. It is phosphate, silicate, borate, nitrate, amine and nitrite free.
You really have to dig hard to find this info but it's out there.
G 012 A8F A4 at Gvap gets you a gallon jug for 16.50 but it's impossible to know for sure if it's + or ++.
Zerex G-05 is the same as MB coolant they have been using for 20 years, it's gold and seems to do great but it does have some nitrites and Audi does not seem keen for those to be in the system.
Other then trace nitrites the forumla is a perservative salt and borax:
ETHYLENE GLYCOL 107-21-1 >=90-<=100%
DIETHYLENE GLYCOL 111-46-6 >=1.5-<5%
SODIUM BENZOATE 532-32-1 >=1.5-<5%
SODIUM TETRABORATE 1330-43-4 >=1.5-<5%
All info was pulled directly from MSDS sheets.
The debate rages on to what is "best"..........

My 2 cents: go to a dealer and go ahead and spend the extra $$$ on Audi coolant. You don't flush it very often and it is money well spent for peace of mind. I know there is a lot of info and a lot of opinions. My opinion is based on losing a tranny after taking a recommendation on a high-end aftermarket fluid. Yes, it could have been coincidence...
The debate rages on.
hey egp320i, does you quattro have the turbo five? Love that engine...

Sorry, highjacked the thread...
I had a B2 4000 quattro (1986) with the five and loved the car. It was absolutely dismal as far as power, so I always lusted after the turbo. Had to give her up as my family outgrew the car and I was not willing to give up my 84 300ZX turbo.
Okay, back to coolant discussions...
