I posted a few days late about the carrier on my Genie opener stripping out.
Someone replied about it possibly being spring troubles. It is.
The door will stay put at head height but drop to the floor from waist high.
Now I need to adjust or replace the springs. Anyone know anything about that. I'm searching Yahoo now and "call a professional" is all I see.
Screw that. I've installed a set of doors before. I know springs can be dangerous. So can my chainsaw, lawn tractor, car and firearms. I know how to take precautions.

They are sending me a new carrier for only the cost of shipping even though the warranty doesn't cover failure due to misadjusted doors.

Hopefully I can get buy with an adjustment. The doors are closing on 10 years old so I may have to install new springs.

http://www.ehow.com/how_115944_fix-garage-door.html</a

From the instructions I have seen, you just have to be careful when letting off and putting on the tension. You should be able to get the same spring size that you have. Use a long metal bar and work slowly. Pay attention to the number of turns on the spring as you uncoil it, then add the same when you rewind the new one. Just be careful and you should be fine.
That was a pretty good call I made on the spring. I thought I was just talkin out of my a$$.

I have the extension type. One on each side.
I'll try an adjustment tonight and if that doesn't work I'll weigh the door.
The carrier won't be here for a couple of days.
I need to add the safety cables through the springs I bought when we moved in back in 2002. These doors are so old they don't even have them. Surprising since the house was built in 1994.
