Gas Cap and CEL question
I was half awake when I filled up for gas and ended up driving about a block before I realized the gas cap was off. I got out and put the cap on, but I believe I didn't screw the gas cap on til it clicked. Like I said, absent minded, dumb and half awake.
Anyways less than two days later, I noticed a solid CEL light was on. I wasn't sure if it just turned on or if it's been on for the past couple of days. I tried to get the codes read at Autozone on my lunch break but they don't do scans anymore. I checked with other Autozones and they said the same thing (at least in Los Angeles). I will have to wait until this weekend to take it to my mechanic to get the codes scan.
My question is: Could leaving the cap off and driving a block and then failing to click the gas cap into locked position cause a CEL light to come on? I read somewhere that I should leave the gas cap off for 5 minutes and then tighten it. Do Audi A4 1.8T CELs turn off themselves or does it require a reset.

It may be a few days before the light goes off.

Ok thanks. The car is driving fine. No shuttering, no hesitation, no lose of power, no weird noises, so I'll just wait a few more days to see if the CEL goes off before I get the codes read at my mechanic.
