Default gas gauge broken?

First tank of gas was ok. Second tank, gauge was faulty. It showed I had 1/4 tank when I shut the engine after all day driving. When I started the car in the morning I had 5 miles of gas left!!! Thank god there was a gas station on my way to the ski mountain.

I filled up a full tank and the gauge shows 3/4 full. I never had a problem like this with my '99 A4. How hard is it to get the gas sensor right? Is this a know problem? I searched the board and it showed no results on "gas gauge"

Default Read this ...

Same thing was happening to mine. Took it in the first time and since it was only happening every other tank it of course didn't malfunction when they filled up a new tank. Dealership called AOA, they said it could be fixed by applying stabilant to the connectors. That didn't do anything to help the situation. Took it in a second time and they fixed it. Turns out there a 2 hoses in the tank that are used to calibrate the gauge. One of the hoses was getting pinched by the other or moved or something every few times I filled up. They had to set the hoses right so they didn't get interfered with. Hope that helps. That is the nature of this problem though and can be easily fixed. Low tone horn going out should be next in line for ya. Hahaha j/k good luck hope you get it fixed soon

Default Txt

You should read my post below, mine was doing the EXACT same thing, reading only 3/4 full after a fill up, it has to do with the hoses inside the tank interfering with each other.

Default I have told the dealer and even showed them your post.

But they think that its the gauge. I am going to push for the hoses to be checked

I feel your pain. Been having the same problems around Seattle with my dealer, who seems to lack a clue about what's going on. Could it be denial?
