Default Gas Gauge Issue

My 2002 A4 3.0 gas gauge showed empty, and the indicator light was flashing. I filled the tank and when I drove away, for the first time since I have owned the car, the indicator light stayed on and the needle is still at empty. Help!

Default The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago after my battery died

I have no idea why the battery died but after recharging the gage moved up a bit and then over the next several days it recovered completely.
I would guess that there is a capacitor in the sender that recovers very slowly. At least that is my guess.

How did you recharge the gage or did it do it by itself?

I did. I always make sure too. I even take the key out.

Default Disconnect your car battery and then reconnect

Same thing happened to me. I searched the forum and found someone with the same problem.

The solution was to disconnect your battery for app. 30 seconds and then reconnect it.

The gauge should then read normally, as well as the trip computer.

Default i found that when your battery dies, in the cold

is when it happened to me a couple of times, i refueled and still showed empty, warmed the car up and still empty. i either found the secret to fixing this issue or it is indeed a fuel sender starting to go out. i watch my milage until it gets to around less that a half tank or around a quarter (guessing obviously) and then i fill it up and everytime it has worked again, sometimes it will register not full but if you drive around a bit it slowly makes its way back to full. im confused on what it could be though, it seems like a electrical problem cause its only happened when the battery dies like you mentioned. hopefully it works for you if you still have this problem. say no to cold weather!!!

Default If A4's are anything like TT's there are 2 fuel gauge senders

which average out when the car is turning , etc..
They gum-up over time resulting is erratic readings.
A couple of bottles of Chevron Techron cleaner will
usually clear it up.
Hav'nt seen it yet on my 05 3.0Q Cab but the ol TT had this problem a lot.
Total solution was a new sender.
My 2 cents.
