Default Getting 3 different DTC's after installing APR Stg 1+...

17536 - Fuel Trim Bank 1 (mult): System too lean

16684 - Random Mult Cylinder Misfire

16685 - Cylinder 1 Misfire

APR suggested the MAF and that I swap with a healthy one to verify the problem. Locating a healthy one w/o buying it first isn't that easy. I unplugged the MAF and the car ran better at idle and driving, for a little while. 17536 returned.

Digging a little deeper with the VAG showed some 'READINESS' issues:

Secondary Air Injection, EVAP Emissions, and Catalytic Converter all 'Failed or Incomplete'

Message Block 062:

12.5% 87.1% 14.1% 7.0%
which are listed at 'duty cycle'

I have replaced the ignition coil for cylinder 1 and the misfire is still there. is there any other information i can pull with the VAG to confirm it is the MAF before i spend the $$$ and replace that?

Thanks,

RJ

Default Check block 032 to see what your short term fuel trim readings are at.

Does stage 1+ come with new injectors? Because if this just started at the same time they were installed you might have a bad injector.

Default Are you running the TT injectors or APR? (Edited)

I had a similiar issue with the APR injectors. Just one code, I was getting a misfire in one cylinder as well. I thought it was a coilpack at first, but after diagnosing each possibility, I found that I had a faulty injector. I only had this problem at idle, under WOT it was fine. Sounds like you could have the same issue.

Swap the Coilpack in cylinder # 1 with cylinder #3, if the misfire is still there, try swapping the plugs, if it's not there, then try swapping the injectors from the same two cylinders and Vag the car again to see if the misfire switches to cylinder #4.

Also make sure each injector is seated properly and all the OEM clips are in place. Also if the MAF is bad, your ESP, aka Traction control will be off all the time. My MAF went out about 4 months ago and the Traction control light is a dead giveaway for a bad MAF.

My car runs great now with the APR injectors. Good luck!

Default

so you were running with the TT at first and then swapped to the APRs?

Default No I've always ran the APR injectors...

I should have been more specific on that. : ) As far as software, I was running GIAC and Revo before I went with the Stage 1+.

Default just ran the car and checked 032...

i am got 5% in the first field and 16% in the second field.

from the VAG forum this would sound like my MAF is going, BUT i logged 003 and i am getting roughly 135 g in chipped mode at 5300' elevation.

Default I swapped the ignition coil in #1 with

a brand new coil (assuming the cylinders are numbered front to back). still getting the misfire and 'random' misfire.

i bought some new plugs, but haven't installed them yet as the problem seems to be deeper than just plugs. the car goes into 'limp mode' even on stock program. checking with the boost guage i am still drawing 17-18 vacuum at idle and 8lbs stock and roughly 13-14 lbs in chipped. this lasts until codes are enough the car goes into limp.

this is with the APR injectors not the TT. i was leaning toward the MAF but logging 003 it looks like it is fine. now i am leaning toward the injectors. yes, they are all properly seated. a compression check was ran after the injectors where installed and everything was within spec.

Default that is what the thread says...

but the +16 or so in the second field woud lead to the MAF. however, i do get 135 g running to redline in block 003...so?

the car idles real rough, but runs fine under load other than the fact that it is making 4lbs of boost.

Default You did everything I did, sounds like it could be an injector...

Dude I'm having a off night for some reason I thought you said the misfire was in cylinder #2, not #1, my bad.

Have you swapped injector #1 with #3? I did not get the other codes you listed. If one cylinder misfires it usually will throw a random misfire code as well. Good luck.
