Default Getting this faint 'wheeeeee' sound from the rear driver side wheel area

Just finished a track session at Bremerton and I hear this sound.

It's not a air leak and some times the sound pulsates and other times it is continuous but it doesn't happen all the time.

It only recently started to happen and the first suggestion is that it might be the fuel pump.

Any other ideas as to what it may be?

EDIT: I forgot to mention I only hear the sound when the car is parked and I walked past the rear driver side wheel area. As I said before it is intermittent and starting the car does not make the sound go away. I cannot hear the sound from the inside when driving.

Default does the sound get louder as you accelerate?

it may be something as simple as a hubcentric ring put on backwards (if you have them). i know it sounds stupid, but it's happened to me and made me wonder WTF was that embarrassing sound...it was a pitched, squeak, squeak, squeak noise that got louder as i accelerated. turned out that my hubcentric ring was put on backwards and wiggled around as it moved.

Default Sounds like the fuel pump to me

Better change the fuel filter soon if it hasn't been changed in a while, before you kill the pump.

Default There is a module/vacuum unit associated with your secondary air pump that is

in the driver's side rear wheel well. I don't have a Bentley here at work but somebody else can check it for you. Maybe its just a loose vacuum line.

Fuel pump does not make sounds unless its running.

Default I remember seeing a small filter element behind the rear wheel lining

when the coilovers were being installed.

That might be what is making the sound but the question is how do you test it?

Default That's part of the EVAP system...

There's a filter element on the leak detection pump which is part of the EVAP system. The LDP isn't really a pump per se, just a solenoid valve with a sensor. It wouldn't be making the noise.

Can you tell if it's a motor running type of sound, or an electronic beeping type of sound? Next time it happens, hit the panic button on your remote and see if it changes when the alarm beep goes off.

Check your trunk too, maybe you have some gizmo in your trunk, such as a cell phone, going off?

Default The sound did sound like an air leak at first but the tire is fine

the sound is a very level 'weeee' tone that either stutters or is a continuous tone.

It's not a beep at all. It is a tone and it could be a vacuum leak but the sound is not a hiss.

The weird thing is that the sound do not happen all the time.

Nothing is in the car that would make that sound since I had to empty it out fro the track event.
