Getting harder and harder to launch the car smoothly, opinions please.
Over the last 3 months or so I have found it is getting harder and harder to launch my 02 A4 manual quattro smoothly, I get a small shudder through the drivetrain as if I were lugging the engine at every start. It can be avoided with more rpm and more clutch slippage, but on normal starts it seems as if I am having trouble getting off the line smoothly. My clutch engagement point is high (as it is with most B6 cars) but the actual point of engagement is fairly soft and difficult to pinpoint exactly. My clutch however seems fine, there is no slippage in any gear, (hooked up in 1st I can floor it with no chatter or slippage of any kind). I have 48k miles on my car
What could be the problem?
Thanks

I disagree with "needing" an aftermarket snub mount to eliminate chater,
Something is wrong, it should be a smooth start. Perhaps pressure plate? I may be way out with that as I haven't taken one of these cars apart as many of you have.

well, it's not that he would necessarily "need" an aftermarket snub and i agree something is wrong
i was just thinking that maybe his OEM snub was having some kind of issue that would cause more chatter than normal...I agree though, he shouldn't NEED an aftermarket snub mount to get smooth shifts

Car is 100% stock
The problem only appears on 1st gear starts from a standing stop, and I can kill the issue with a few more RPM and a bit more slippage of the clutch.
It is beginning to bother me a bit.

At my last service, a month ago
The car was having a shudder, the tech cleaned and replaced the gaskets on the throttle body, this seemed to help the problem initially, but now it is back again. The throttle body was worked on to clear up a rough idle, which it did and the rough idle has not returned. Since the car is still under warranty, it looks like I have a date with my service dept.

Re: Car is 100% stock
I'm glad I found this post. I have a 02 3.0 w/ 46k on it. Over the last 2k miles, I thought I had forgotten how to drive a clutch smoothly.
Has anyone had this checked at the dealership?
