My car has 8600 miles on it. I got the 5K service done at 4900 miles. According to Audi, I shouldn't get another "service" notification until 15K miles. Any idea why I got this?

it's more like the tech probably reset it wrong...i did get an oil change at 10k, but i'm gonna have them check my oil w/ my next service (i've got it scheduled for tuesday) and tell me how it looks...if it's looking relatively clean, i may just follow audi procedure and do it every 10k

I don't think they can say ok tell the driver in 3200k to change oil. I had SERVICE come up at 10k and I had to reset it myself. Once I did that and drove around the block it counted down to next 5k service. My service dept. continues to tell me to change every 5k though.

It will alert you to a service stop every 10K on the nose. This 10K interval is based on the odometer reading and not by when it was last reset. i.e. get an late service at 12K it will remind you at 20K instead of 22K. It also seems to not take into account how many miles you drive per day on average. It always says something ridiculous like 300 days to the next service when it's only 1500mi away, and I put that kind of mileage on in 1 month.

would be able to "monitor" my driving styles, thus being able to tell if my oil was broken down quicker, thus needing an early oil change. I guess that's not the case.

Your first service is at 5K, then the next at 10K intervals after that. The instrument cluster is set to count in intervals of 5 when the car is first built. If you do a simple reset of the light, the cluster is going to count to 5 again. However, there is a TSB on how to correct this by changing a value in the cluster so it then starts counting to 10, instead of 5. You can do one of 2 things, either have your dealer make the cluster count to 10 instead of 5 so that the service reminder matches what your book says to do, or you can leave it be and do oil changes at 5K in between your normal 10K service. My car is set up to count to 5.
