Got 16" wheels with 205/55/16 and thinking of changing to 225/45/16.....good idea or no?

overall rolling circumferance or the speedometer will be off. Also, if tires are not right, i.e. too big, they can damage wheel wells.
I am trying to remember the math but I think a 225/50/16 would be a more appropriate size.
Just call the Tire Rack (tirerack.com) and ask them the appropriate wider tire size for a 16 inch wheel.
Only other problem to consider is the width of the wheel. Your wheel is probably a 16 x 7 wheel. Going to a wider tire on the same wheel could increase sidewall flex (lateral flex) and reduce responsiveness of tire. The lower profile sidewall will counter that a lot but talk to someone who really knows before you do it. Just so you know what you will be getting.
