I have both a 323Ci and 1.8. The BMW handles much better as far as the twisties go. I feel more confident in the BMW when taking off or on ramps at higher speeds. Both cars has the sport pack although the Audi tires are slightly wider. Fit and finish on the BMW is a little better but not by much. The Audi definitely gets the prize for the sound when the door closes although I have the BMW coupe which does not have a window frame. The sister has the 325xi and that door closing sound is very nice.

I don't know if it's just me but with the Audi tiptronic there is a slight delay in throttle response from a stand still. I am always hesitant to cross a busy road with traffic from a dead stop. The car seems to wait a second and then kick in. I can't compare this to the BMW as it's a 5 speed though. Does anyone know if the engine can be recoded to get rid of this throttle delay? That's the one thing I really don't like about the car.

Have been shopping for my wife and we tried
the 325, Benz C240 and the 3.0 A4. The Benz
dealer said I would be back after checking out
the BMW and Audi. In any case I was checking
out vehicles close to the same price point.
The Bimmer being a bit cheaper. During
the Audi test drive, my wife underestimated a
sharp left turn, went in too fast, didn't brake
enough, nearly gave me a heart attack and
then took the turn (3.0 without sport package).
We were sold.

Had an E46 myself, a 2000 323 sport...loved certain qualities about it...i agree with about 99% of your write up. Nice Job.
