Do not get the FM Transmitter from Apple unless it's the only thing you can do because IT SUCKS! I don't know if you can buy a tape adapter for your model Audi, but that is the best way to go if you don't want to pay for an IceLink. The tape adapter worked on my 99 A4, but on my 2005 the tape player is flipped, so the tape adapter no longer works.
The reason why I say the FM Transmitter sucks is that you have to program your iPod with the open FM stations in your town. Then you have to play the file you load onto the iPod that corresponds with the open station you have your radio tuned to. Once you do this the apple FM transmitter takes over that station on the FM dial in your car. It works fine unless other stations cause feedback and distortion (which happens a lot in big cities). And forget about road trips because then you have to do it for every different town/city you will be driving through.
The tape adapter is easy plug and play and the sound quality is top notch. I have FM adapter right now, but will be getting an IceLink system soon because I listen to my iPod all of the time in my car.

I think this is fairly common. I got the Blitzsafe adapter, which goes for about $80 and can be bought from a variety of places (do a search on google). Basically, it's a small yellow box. One harness coming out of the box plugs into the back of your stock radio. The other harness accepts the wires that normally plug into your radio. The OTHER wires are standard RCA hookups, into which you plug your iPod. With that setup, you push CD TWICE on the factory radio, and that brings you to the iPod input. Play songs on your iPod, and they feed directly into your car's stereo speakers. This way eliminates the most visible wires, and allows for the best clarity of sound.
I also mounted my iPod using a device from bracketron.com that bolts right onto the side of the stereo (no drilling req'd). Holds it righ in place, giving me very easy access and visibility of the machine.
