Just got this quote today. I'm in New York area. What do you guys think?
$36,800
2004 6-Speed A4 3.0 Avant with
Metallic Paint
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Sport Package
I'm also considering the Bose Package and Navigation System. Do you guys find either of them worth it?
Thanks!

No pricing is set on the 2004 A4 yet so anything they tell you now is just an estimate of pricing and they're gambling on price increase. Current 2003 invoice on the above spec'd out car is $35,478 + port prep fee and floorplan reserve (about $300) so that's about $35,800. I have heard 1%-2% price increase from 2003 to 2004 (kind of matches the historical changes from 2002 to 2003) so the 2004 invoice is probably going to be between $36,100 and $36,500.
I HIGLY doubt that ANY dealer will sell you a brand new model year A4 for $300 to $700 over invoice. It's just not going to happen. Sounds like the dealer is gambling on the price increase or they're just planning to do the good onld bait and switch on you. I'd be very careful if I were you.

Invoice on the 2003 is actually only $34,588 (+ $300). So probably the 2004 will have a total invoice between $35,200 and $35,600. So the dealer is probably planning on making between $1200 and $1600 which is a LOT more reasonable.

The Bose is debatable. I find that it's a decent stock system. Though one could also argue that aftermarket would run around the same price with much higher sound quality. I went for the Bose and am happy with it, but I also have realistic expectations.
Get the premium leather if you can. The standard leather only covers the seat centers. The outer seating surfaces, sides and backs are leatherette.

Thanks for the input!
I can't really tell much of a difference between the standard leather and the premium leather, tho. Is this an issue of how differently leather and leatherette age? Do they age very differently?
What do you think of the price quote?

On the 9-3 I replaced with the A4, the seating surfaces were leather with leatherette sides. After four years you can easily see the difference between the two. Beige however, will show this much more than Ebony I am sure.
Here's the issue though. The A4 only has leather covering 50% of the seat front (square bottom and back, while the side bolsters on the bottom and back are leatherette). Because the Saab covered the entire seat bottom and back, you were rarely in a position to see the difference.
IMO, if you're going with Ebony, you will be fine if you don't mind leatherette. I would definitly reconsider if you're looking at platinum or beige.
As everyone has pointed out, it's impossible to quote a price since they are not available to even the dealers. Location and time of purchase will also influece the type of deal you get. Most consider 3-5% over invoice a good deal. I got 4% or 1,500 but had I been in another part of the country I'm sure I could have done better. Instead of focusing on the purchase price of the car, work out a deal for a certain amount over invoice. That way, regardless of what 2004 pricing is, they can't back out of the deal.
BTW, congrats. Glad to see another 6 speed Avant owner. I can't think of anyone other than myself at the moment. What color are you going with?
