Default Grabby 3.0 clutch?

I've given it 7300 miles to either smooth or for me to get used to it, but my clutch is still very grabby, especially the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shifts. My girlfriend complained at first I was always bumping her head off the headrest, until she drove it--it is just very hard to get a smooth shift. Final straw, I rented an Opel Vectra while on vacation and I preferred shifting it...
Others have complained. Is this by design? If so why? In any case, is there any way to adjust it? I suppose if I had any other objections, this wouldn't bother me...but it's the only thing keeping me from the perfect driving experience...

If you rev match your shifts you should have no problem

It seems to be more the gearing than the clutch itself, to me (besides a lack of feedback by the clutch). There is a huge ratio difference between 1st and 2nd, requiring a fast shift with just the right amount of gas at just the right point in the clutch travel. It's a pain, but I can smooth it out if I try...

Default seems to be the bad gearing...I usually just let the flywheel slow down about 1200rpm until engaging

2nd gear. so if i wind 1st to 3k rpm, i'll depress clutch, wait for the rpm to slow to about 1800 rpm, then release to engage 2nd...usually get a smooth shift like that...a pain indeed.

Default Yes, this is annoying! My '97 A4 had a transparent clutch...hardly noticed it!

I find the grabby clutch so annoying that this A4 seems like a clunker after only 2500 miles. I'm starting to look elsewhere for the next car which will be in less than a year.....just too many flaws and terrible engineering on this Gen 2 compared to the Gen 1. I really enjoy the reverse gear whine!

I used to drive a mx6 for about 6 years and my new A4 definitely has problems with some gears. Second and Third are sometimes hard to pull into or make a noise. My MX6 didn't have any problems on any gears or not being smooth, yet my 2002 A4 does. Very wierd.

Or you can do the unthinkable and let the clutch slip.
