Which grade oil: 0w40 or 5w30?

(Note: I searched the archive, but found no specific answers for my case.)
Details:
- 2002 1.8T APR-1
- Boston, MA
- Gentle driving (hehe...)
- 60% city/40% highway.
I'm ordering a case of Mobil 1 synthetic for my 40k oil change at the dealership, but wondering which viscosity to use. 30k was 5w30, 35k was 0w40 (because I couldn't find 5w30).
Should I bother searching for 5w30, or just go with the 0w40?

0w40 is said to meet the specific 502 (VW spec) and it's on the 'approved list'. The 5w30 Mobil does not meet the spec, but perhaps you are getting the proper brand in that weight if your at the dealership.
Just curious why your not getting it from a local store or even WalMart, is the dealer offering a good discount?

also do a search for audi junkie and bvhdr's and someone else [but can't recall right now] oil viscosity index chart that lists each oil's operating parameters. good luck.
