Has anybody tried to remove their shift ****(6spd)? Is it still a threaded type ****?
I tried unscrewing it, but it's either really tight, or secured in another manner. Anybody have any luck?
Thanks,

The 5spd know is attached with a pinch clamp , that has to be cut off to remove the ****. the 6spd allroad is the same way so i would figure your is the same also

A brief note of concern (caution)
Caution with brief story: On my beloved new '94 Saab SE Coupe, I asked the dealer to install a wooden shift ****. Unbeknownst to me, the original **** had to be cut off. The kid assigned to perform this task bent the shift couplings ... (there's a long, long, story here that includes many return visits and ends with the transmission being completely rebuilt).
Sorry for this interjection, but when the terms 'cut off' and 'shift ****' are used in the same sentance, my whole body cringes, my blood runs cold, and, for a brief moment, a bleak look of horror distorts my persona.
My current motto: If the job requires a high level of expertise, have the service department do it. But if it's a project that would likely be relegated to 'that new kid over there', do it yourself.
