Default has anyone ever used a KWP2000 Flasher Plus to modify/program/read their ecu?

supposedly you can program it through the OBDII port with this cable. claims to be compatible with ME7x (boot mode), so should work for our cars. we are ME7.5?

any idea what boot mode is?

here is a link:

Default It is a lot more difficult and more complicated than the seller is saying!.....m

After dumping the ECU programing to a PC, the relevant data is not in a readily readable format. There are third party software products that provide a front end user interface to analyze the map data, then make the desired changes. Finally the checksums used by the ECU OS, to confirm data integrity, and proper program execution, need to be realigned in the code. Again, there is third party software for that, but it is not a trivial prospect.

Default How do you actually get the ECU program dumped to a PC?

Does WinOLS do that?

Default Well, that's my point. The ECU will not dump it's program to a PC just because .....m,

you connect some cable device to the OBD II diagnostic port. In the minimum, a specific command needs to be sent to the ECU, to get that result. I suppose it is possible that the necessary protocol and command is automatically sent by the cable device, but based on the claims for all the different ECUs the product is supposed to be compatible with, that scenario seems unlikely.
Other PC based software to access the ECU, and interpret, modify and then upload/reflash the ECU program would be necessary.
So, can WinOLS provide all of that interface functionality also?
I don't mean to be argumentative with you, I am extremely interested in doing my own ECU remapping, and have been really frustrated in the lack of any practical tools to accomplish that. The accessibility of the ECUs on the Japanese and American cars is very easy to do. It is very annoying that similar aftermarket tuning capability for the Bosch Digital Engine Management used by Audi and other makes is not available.

good luck. most of pay professionals to do that instead of risking the engine.
