Has anyone experienced surging in 2nd gear?
Ok, I am getting an odd sensation when driving my A4. It happpens at part throttle in 2nd gear approximately between 2500 and 3000 rpm. I don't really know how to describe what is going on other than it feels like the surging feeling you get when you let of the gas quickly in a manual transmission car. It doesn't happen all of the time, and it will only occur in part throttle situations. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Maybe a fuel delivery issue of some sort? Thanks.

I've experienced a similar issue...(more)
I've attributed this to the "sport" mode/torque converter on the tip tranny. This only seems to happen when in Drive, I've not noticed it in Sport, but I've not driven but 250 miles in Sport mode.
I'm probably not saying this right, it's explained somewhat in the Owner's Manual, but I've noticed when pressing the throttle gently, then more aggressively, the tach jumps up and down, almost as if it is downshifting, but it is not. It is simply putting the tranny in a more "aggressive" mode. I've played around with it and it seems to do it pretty regularly. I'm working with a learning curve on a new car, I think it's just a matter of getting used to how the transmission reacts to your input.

YES YES YES!
Sorry, I get excited when somebody notices the same thing I've been noticing (and complaining about).
I say: That's a little wierd.
Audi Tech says: It's normal.
You said it was covered "somewhat" in the manual. Where?
