Has anyone fit a mountian bike into the trunk of their a4 sedan?
I'm just getting into mountain biking, and picking up a rockhopper this weekend....
I have not purchase a roof rack yet because I am waiting for my wife to get her new Outback. Do you think I could live with the trunk transport method for a month or two? Has anyone else been doing this? If I take the front wheel off, and turn the handle bars will it fit in the trunk?
Thanks!!

I fit a road bike in there and it's a pretty big frame (I'm 6'4")
Obviously, you have to take the front wheel off, and it just barely fit, but I didn't have to detatch the seat. If I had taken the seat off, it would have fit very easily.

I can't fit my RockyMtn Element in the trunk even with both wheels removed...
Sucks! I just barely doesn't fit too. Oh well. I can't bear to ruin the lines of the car with a roof rack.

It will depend totally on the geometry or your bike...
It's not a height issue by putting the wheels (once removed) on top of the frame. The issue will be the lenght and width of your frame.

No problem provided you put the back seats down. I do it regularly. Like you said take the front wheel off and turn the handle bars upwards. You can also get two it there (17" frames)just need to put one **** about. I thin cushion between bikes is also a good idea. I've done this once with little problems.
Happy bike riding.
