Default to be CPO'ed the car must pass through X number of inspections

i don't know the actual number off the top of my head...

that said the joke of a dealership near me... prestige audi in north miami beach had a CPO'ed car for sale that was missing all 3 pedals, had a passanger door stuck shut to the outside, had tiny holes in the back seat everywhere (pet with claws), had scrapes on the bumpers, was a smokers car, and best of all had reported mileage fraud on carfax...

sometimes dealers are lazy... cpo'ing a car makes it jump to the top of the list on sites like autotrader and also makes it more attractive to buyers... but it doesn't mean you can't run into a crooked or lazy dealership...

that said if a car has body work and no frame damage im sure it can still be cpo'ed

Agreed. CPO is just a way for dealerships to increase the perceived "value" of a car
