First off, unless he told you or showed you a radar, there is no way to prove that you were indeed going 40.

Second, speed limit = 40 . So 40mph is not a speeding infraction. Also, it is almost impossible to go 40mph around a left turn, especially at a stop sign.

I would just review the facts of the day. Write down important details now before your court date. So if you are indeed questioned about the time, for example, you don't say something stupid like "I don't know...maybe around 4 or 4:30." Just try to recall exactly what went on: Time of day, when the light turned, your speed, where the cop parked, what exactly the officer said to you, etc. It will look alot better if you go in prepared and absolutely sure of what occured.

I'd also check about the laws with "squeeling." I had no idea this was a law. I've "squeeled" my tires turning right at about 10-15mph. I doubt if you didn't hear a squeal that a cop did in his car 50+ feet away.
