I got a CEL this week, and didn't have time to bring to shop. Went away for the weekend & left my car at a commuter lot. Came back started the car and got the Coolant warning that I was low on engine coolant. I checked and I almost had none left. Turned the car off, and then the car wouldn't start again. It turns over, but wont fire. Is this a safety procedure to keep the car from over heating? I am going back tomorrow with coolant as the gas stations didn't carry the g12. Any and all feedback on this issue is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Michael

If I had to guess I would say it's a combination of a bad coolant temp sensor (when this goes bad it doesn't allow the car to cold start - or its very difficult) and a bad rear coolant flange.
When the seals in this flange get worn this is an easy spot for coolant loss.
While looking through on the passenger side see if you can spot dried coolant, it will be a pinkish-white crust running down the back of the head and maybe on to the bell housing of the transmission.
This is a pretty common leak on these cars. We have a kit that replaces the flange and the sensor as well as all new hardware below.
