Help - Vapor and odd smell coming from vents when climate controls are on (more)
The other day the inside of my car starting getting this odd smell in it, maple syrup is the best way to describe it. Last night with the A/C on it looked like condensation was forming on the windshield, but wasn't going away, I then noticed the whole windshield seem to have a film on it more so above the windshield vent.
Then today while on the freeway I put the AC on and the this vapor starts blasting out my vents - very noticeable when the sun light hit it. I thought it was water vapor but when I put my hand in front it didn't get wet. Also the syrup smell came back with it. So a shut the climate controls off and what ever this vapor is continues to tumble out the vents and down the dash.
Even when just using the econ settings the stuff still seems to come out. I'm not sure if its just residual vapor in the system from the A/C or if its common problem to the climate controls.
Any idea what it is? I would think it was condensation but the smell and the behaviour of the vapor makes me think otherwise. The smell is reminiscent of de-icing fluid used on aircraft which I think is similar to antifreeze.
Any advice would be great!

sounds like a coolant leak from the heater core. more,
it can deposit a film of antifreeze on the windows and it smells sweet.usually happens when heater is on,but still a possability. have it checked out and check your coolant level. joe v.

Looks like it is a heater core leak, is it safe to drive?
I've got very two small coolant drips running down both sides of the center console in the forward part of the footwell.
My coolant level is down, but isn't below the minimum yet and I have driven 100+ miles since I first noticed the smell.

If it blows, it could scald your foot and fog up the windshield with zero vision..your call!
VW's a few years back had this problem and scalded ones foot to where you couldn't use it to brake the car! Yours could just be a hose connection leak or a bad heater core. Unfortunately they need to practically rip the whole dash apart to get at the heater core...OUCH!
