Default Here's an Odd One

One frigid AM in January I started my 02 A4 and let it idle in my driveway for at least 45 min; I was on a phone call at the time. When I got to my car I noticed that the stereo display appeared to be broken; as it turns out, the glass behind the protective cover had cracked, spilling what I assume is some sort of liquid, as it appears to be a water-like smear on the stereo display. No trouble with the stereo performance, but a strange look, to say the least. It's going in for repairs this week so I will update. Anyone ever have this issue? Strange, but the cold weather we had was unprecedented this year.

Default You let your engine idle for 45 minutes just sitting on your driveway? That's crazy.

It's not recommended to let your eigine idle for more than 3-5 minutes. Any longer, it will do more harm to your eigine and the environment.

Default If you do it consistently, yes. Couple times won't do anything but waste gas.

Oh, and mess up your stereo display. ;-)

Default Far from crazy! If you tried to move your car after 3-5 mins in -50 temp

it won't go! At least not that well! While 45mins is long I have let it run for 30mins a couple of times this winter. I usually run it 10 mins in cold winter temps -20 to -30 even with the oil pan heater. I would argue that moving the car in 3-5 mins at those temps does far more damage. I don't suggest moving here so you can try it though.
