I am the proud new owner of a 2002 A4 3.0 MT6. The lights come on automatically when the car is started (like DRL), but I WANT TO CONTROL WHEN THE LIGHTS COME ON. Is this a user programmable feature - the only mention in the manual is for Canadian versions, this is not. Thanks!

When you start your car, your fog lights and parking lights come on even though your headlight switch is off?
If that's the case your headlights are probably coded for Canadian DRL's. Yes you can recode that with a VAG Tool if I'm understanding your post correctly.

hi and thanks for the reply, yes when i start the car, even though the light switch is turned to the off position, the head lights (not fog lights) and tail lights come on as if i had turned them on. I cant stand that on a sunny day, i have to turn the switch to the parking lights to make the headlights turn off.
thanks again.
thanks again.

The first thing to look at would be the coding on your 09-Elec. Ctrl Module if you have access to a VAG-Tool, if you not you might want to use the VAG locator or ask your deal to look at it, but they may charge you.
I'd recommend you code the module like
If you have Xenon Lights: 00013
If you have Halogen Lights: 00003
This is the link to find somebody in your area with VAG-Tool if you don't have one. If that doesn't do it, you may have a bad switch???<ul><li><a href="http://www.steve-hall.com/cgi-bin/VAG-Locator.pl">Vag-Tool Locator</a></li></ul>

it may actually depend on where you are. some places require that you have certain lights on all the time, ie. Canada with fogs for DRLs. this is easily changed with a VAG tool. just recode the lighting to 00013 and that'll turn off all your lights, even city lights if you have them, when your light switch is in the off position.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check out the Vag tool option. Car originated in Conn., not sure if they have a DRL law or not. Thanks again.
