High RPM...Good/Bad? What do you think...
Hey guys...Just broke in my 05 B6 1.8T CVT...Have put 1200 miles on it and just started driving the thing hard...can't get my hands off of the Multitronic, I love it!
Anyways...constant driving on high engine speeds...such as 4-5K R.P.M.? Is that going to hurt/degrade my engine rather than driving it on D and having R.P.M. at 2-3K R.P.M.?
I love how the car drives/power/sound at high engine rev's...heck, will even red line hurt the car?
Thanks for any input.

yes that causes excesive wear to just ride in 4k rpms
also you are using your oil faster, and probably other fluids
may seem cool, but your motor wasnt made to be always pushed that hard, that is why it has higher gears, so you can take stress off the motor when driving faster

not saying its not meant to do that, but it does create more wear
than regular driving
5k rpms is pretty high, race cars are designed to hold high rpms for a long time, regular cars are not, everything moving is moving a lot faster... therefor, more wear on motor

the word excessive implies that more than normal, and that is why I disagreed with you.
Is it going to hurt his engine by driving at those high revs? I don't think it does. It is different than your typical Honda or American car.
Honda engines rev till 8k rpms, and usually have a final drive that puts 80 mph at 3k rpms.
American cars have lower redlines, but also have a really low RPM final drive.
Does it create more wear? That is highly debateable. As long as the engine is properly maintained, I would be willing to say that high revs are acceptable wear on the engine.
Remember, that Audi tests their engines at 24 hours of Le Mans. Audi has the most reliable engines for the Le Mans series. Where as most other manufacturers (if not all others) go through several engines during a race season, Audi typically uses the same engine throughout the whole season. I'd expect that some of that long term engine abuse and testing would trickle downw into their product line.

SWEET STUFF. THANKS GUYS
Thanks a lot for all of your input. Well, I guess I didn't make my question clear, but I still got answers to another question which I had. So knowing all of this...regular SHIFTING at high revs...thats not bad i suppose? I usually end up taking my car to 5-6000 R.P.M. on first and second (6 speed auto CVT) since it just jumps and gets the most power there...
