I had auto zone hook up a scanner, but I'll have them run it again to check for any additional codes

That one will not read VAG unique codes. You have to get a VAGCOM tool to read the CCM codes.

Here is where I got my cable and the info for the link to the software is near the bottom of the page.

Software is free. Look for VCDS-Lite. Cable is less than $20 shipped.

Bear in mind that the eBay cable won't do too well with all tje car modules. I had trouble with the air bags and the eBay cable but I had no problems with locking.

Thanks Gingerbreadman, I should have been more specific on the software. Also, agree with his comment regarding the cable. The one at the webiste I sent has worked flawlessly for 2 years.

Uhg now due to the car thinking the hood is open randomly it has woke me up out of bed 3 times the switches in the door did nothing so now it sits unlocked. If it thinks the hood is open there must be a hood pin switch, right? I have a vagcom cable on the way but I dont think that can solve the issue unless it lets me disable that switch

Never encountered a bad hood switch. No idea where that thing is.
