Hood release problem

Hood release problem
Yesterday I tried to pop the hood to check the oil. The inside hood release hand lever popped but the hood latch never released. I didn't think it would be a safety hazard as the hood was flush with the rest of the car. I tried several times but it only worked after a 40 minute drive. Anyone else have this problem and/or have any ideas? Should I wait or take it in to the dealer.
3100 miles on my 1.8TQMSX and grinning all the way. No other problems and car is much smoother and quieter now.

Re: Hood release problem
Did you try pulling the hood up slightly to get the release handle to pop out? The hood release lever is a direct cable to the hood release latch, so if it "pops" then the hood is released. However, sometimes the latch doesn't release with enough force to get the little grill lever to pop out, so you have to pull up on the hood.
You probably tried that, but I just wanted to make sure.

I had that problem constantly...and found a fix!
I found it's the rubber seal adhering to the hood. My fix was to wax the underside of the hood that presses against the seal...it's never been stuck since (and I pop the hood often)

Interesting problem and solution. :) Just be careful about using silicone products (more)
to fix it. Silicone can damage the MAF sensor in your car, and so Audi/VW always warn dealers to not have the engine running while using any silicone-based products in or near the engine compartment, and not to start the engine for a good while afterward, so no silicone gets drawn into the intake.
Wax is fine, of course.

Had to have the dealer install a new hood latch!
Mine was bad from day one. The hood would pop, but the release lever would not come out of the grill. If I pulled up on the hood it would pop out. Tried all the waxing and silicone ideas, but none worked. So during a routine visit for the check engine light I had them take a look at it.
Dealer stated it needed a new latch, had to be order!
Works great now
