Default Hood stuck in closed position

2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro

My hood is stuck in the closed position.

The hood lever next to the drivers side seat offers resistance but the hood doesn't open which leads me to believe the cable has not snapped. However the hood is stuck in the completely closed position.

Anyone know a way to open the hood when this lever isn't working?

I pushed up and down on the hood a couple times and loosened it enough for the lever in the cabin to work. Now I will attempt to fix the hood mechanism by spraying dw40 on it.

If anyone in the future needs to get the hood open and finds this thread. You must remove the belly pan, put the car on stands. Using a light look up and you will see the small lever the cable pulls, you must use a really long screw driver or something and try and force your arm up to be able to trip the latch with the screw driver.

WD 40 is great for freeing up rusted mechanisms. Use a real lubricant for longer lasting operation.

What's a real lubricant?

I tried to look up from under I couldn't see the lever.

Lithium grease or regular oil. WD40 is a penetrating oil and doesn't provide long lasting lubrication.

Not to mention WD40 is like the most pathetic penetrating product you can buy. PB, seafoam deep creep, ect are lightyears ahead of WD40s waste of oil in a can.

you have to remove the plastic belly pan and reach way up, push the hood release lever from the right to the left. i didn't have a screwdriver long enough, use my middle finger. there is a clip that is supposed to hold the hood cable in spot it gets brittle and snaps, the hood cable falls out of the release lever.

good luck! oh and light duty gloves would be recommended scratched my hand up pretty bad!

Wd 40 is ok for freeing it up, I use Krown penetrant to get it moving freely, then phil's dry grease. Hard to find works great though!
