See link several threads below. You will need about a stout 18 inch "tool" to push the lever. And, keep in mind the direction you push it is counterintuitive; push toward the passenger side to release.

I had to do this about 2 years ago and yes it was counterintuitive. Once you get it open and look at the latch, it makes sense. Try it to the passenger side
