Default How can I get these off?

This is the downpipe attached to the cat. The bolts are pretty much welded to the base. I've sprayed em w/pb blaster, even the bolt out won't work. I'm thinking the only option left is to cut the bolt w/ the dremel???

Default Consider yourself lucky.

I had to undo those laying on my back with the car up on jack stands. Buy new bolts from the dealer. Put on safety glasses and cut them off. Good luck.

Yeah, I decided at 5 o'clock this morning not to even attempt to unbolt the downpipe from under the car. I went straight to the cat and took it off, which was alot easier than I thought it'd be... thanks to a great write up on A4mods.

Default I had to do the same, last weekend when I R&R'd my clutch...

2 of my 3 cat-2-downpipe nuts stripped...

Luckily I was able to remove the 3 nuts on the back of the turbo, and remove cat & down pipe together.

I clamped'm in a vise and cut off the bolts with a die grinder and cut-off wheel.

What really sucks, is I had bought ARP stainless hardware, which was not suppose to strip!

I bolted the cat and down pipe back together, with a new gasket, in the vise, then installed'm back on the car in 1 section.

I left the 3 turbo nuts loose, to allow me to reinstall the gearbox, and move the down pipe out of the way of the gearbox.

Had plenty of room reinstalling the gearbox doing it this way, vise removing the down pipe all together ;o)

Default I'm not sure, but it would not suprise me if the nuts are welded to the flange at the factory. ...

Welded in place nuts are common practice on exhaust systems. The bolts/studs can be cut between the flanges to seperate the parts as already mentioned.
